The genesis of this thesis lies in two concrete experiences.  The first, and foundational, is my marriage, as a Roman Catholic, to a woman of the Anglican tradition.  What began as a journey of love developed into a life-long ecumenical journey.  Not only did we embark on a marriage between spouses from two different Christian traditions, we joined the growing subset of such marriages in which both spouses retain their respective church membership, worshipping together and raising their children in both churches to the extent they are able.   Such families are known throughout the world variously as interchurch families (Anglophone countries), foyers mixtes (France),konfessionsverbindende Paare und Familien (Germany), coppie interconfessionali (Italy), etc.  In so doing, we began living in our marriage the already of Christian unity within the not yet of unity between our churches.

The second is more prosaic.  While participating in a meeting in Rome, Italy, 18 October 2005, between representatives of the Interchurch Families International Network and staff of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity(1), we were invited to begin exploring the reality of the term ‘domestic church’. The thesis for which the data to which you are now being made privy is entitled "Interchurch Families as Domestic Church: Familial Experiences and Ecclesial Opportunities". This thesis completes the final requirement for the designation Master of Sacred Theology (STM).

In the following links, you will find the Thesis itself, followed by a document (Amalgamated Research Data) which contains, in one file, a decription of the methodology and all responses in order. In Research Data, you will find those responses ordered by question number. Following those documents, you will find the response of each couple or individual.
